The VVW Series - Single and Multi-Channel SD, HD and 2K systems

The VVW Series added support for compressed and uncompressed 8 or 10 bit SD, HD and 2K. Drastic's standard QuickClip clip control software allows transport control, clip editing and sequencing, external control and media management capabilities. Onboard MediaReactor file translation capabilities provide format compatibility with industry-standard digital video/audio devices.

Ongoing Development

The VVW Series established a new standard for media capture and playback, offering compressed and uncompressed capture and playback in a range of standards and formats. Ongoing development, including a moving target in video hardware support, made the VVW Series limited in its scope of possible expansion. For this reason, we have replaced the VVW Series with our Titan Series, though we have not eliminated this functionality. The features present in the VVW Series are still available in a Drastic DDR, including up to 4 SD or 2 HD channels in one system, full MediaReactor transcoding, wide previewing and output flexibility.

Legacy Support

For those owners of a VVW Series DDR, you will already be aware of our attention to detail, and our ongoing efforts to provide support. Where possible we will try to keep systems running in the field for as long as the hardware can survive. The VVW Series Digital Disk Recorders were offered in four main model lines:

  • the VVW 2000/250x series - these systems offered compressed (MPEG-2) capture and playback based on Matrox DigiServer hardware. This video hardware has since been discontinued by the manufacturer.
  • the VVW 3000/3x00 series - these systems offered compressed (MJPEG) capture and playback based on Matrox DigiSuite hardware. This video hardware has since been discontinued by the manufacturer.
  • the VVW 500x series - these systems offered uncompressed standard definition based on VideoPump, and then AJA hardware.
  • the VVW 7000 series. - these systems offered uncompressed SD and HD capture and playback based on VideoPump, and then AJA hardware.

New Platform, New Features

The VVW Series may live on forever in our mind, but the actual systems and their underlying architecture have reached the end of their lifespan. If you would like to see Drastic's latest DDR technology products, please view the Net-X-Code page.
